Panic Button: Bronxville's very own Improv Team
by Jack Begert"Zeebada ook bop tant wikup squee."
No folks, those are not Skatman lyrics, but a carefully mastered art known as gibberish. If you sat in on a rehearsal of Panic Button, the Bronxville High School improv team, you would hear a lot of this. In a gibberish game, players must speak to each other and communicate ideas while speaking only gobbledygook. Not only must your speech be nonsensical, but it also must flow and sound like a real language. Although this may sound like a hard and daunting task, I assure you it is incredibly amusing to watch.
In fact, the entire improv show is amusing to watch. I joined the team as a freshman, and have done four shows. Our final performance this year will be this Sunday, May 31st, at 2:00 PM in the Bronxville Black Box Theatre (Royal's room). The students performing will be Peter Machtiger, George Hider, James Thurm, Annie Massa, Jack Begert (myself), Luke Connors, Coco Vonnegut, and Kuba Kiridontknowhowtospellhislastnametryk.
Del Close, founder of the Improv Olympics said it best: 'The only rule is that there are no rules." Improv is an extreme sport that tests mind and body, pitting team on team. Performing at both the Bronxville School and The National Comedy Theatre in NYC, we in Panic Button have honed our skills in pulling scenes out of thin air. We can't take all the credit however; J.T. Arbogast, our fearless coach and performance referee, keeps us on our toes at each rehearsal with new games and ideas that keep our improvisational skills sharp.
In conclusion improv is the best thing that has ever happened to BHS. Support your local improv group, Panic Button, and meou ryaocrh datohucaeh---
