AP Week: Hard for Many, Fun for Others

by Richard Bastuck

Bronxville High School is almost done with the dreadful AP exams. An entire year of college-level coursework and preparation has led up to this point, where we must now prove to College Board that we have an intricate understanding of certain subjects. Though the payoff is a day off from classes, I’d hardly say that rectifies taking several three-hour exams over two weeks. But what do I know? I’m didn’t take any of these tests!

For me, the only product of AP Week is that I’ve had two fewer classes to attend, leading to increased laziness due to a ridiculous amount of free time. I have spent more time in the lounge with my complete and utter lack of something constructive to do. Though ever since Super Smash Bros. was discovered to have been, well, smashed, the lounge has lost much of its allure. Whoever broke it, we WILL find you. But anyway, with less than three weeks of school left (at least for seniors), I now feel that I can finally take a break and chill. Granted, as seniors are finishing up their exams, everyone is starting to feel the end of school and the approaching summer months. Well, again, really only seniors. I pity sophomores and juniors who do not yet know the joys of being a senior in May.

Even though the exams are almost over, I know I will always look back and smile fondly at the fact that while many of my friends were freaking out and stressing over these tests, I did the exact opposite. Mr. Omar Chowdhury, for instance, was so worked up over his AP Physics exam on Monday that he missed out on seeing Star Trek in IMAX last Thursday to study! Additionally I have had countless AIM conversations with people that started and promptly ended in the following manner:

RichardBastuckSN: Hey, what’s up?
GenericFriendsSN: studying for AP, can’t talk BYE
(GenericFriendsSN has signed off)
RichardBastuckSN: Umm… okay then…
(GenericFriendsSN is offline and will receive your instant message later)
RichardBastuckSN: Darn…
(THEY’LL RECEIVE IT LATER!!!!)
RichardBastuckSN: Gaaahh okay!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, don’t mess with AIM. In all truthfulness, however, I did distract a few people from their studies. But, again, I had nothing better to do because I’m not one of those poor souls who had to deal with these terrible tests. Fortunately, however, as the AP weeks come to a close, I am joined by many in looking forward to the summer. And allow me to end this article with an awful cliché when I say we seniors now have the opportunity to look forward to the beginning of the rest of our lives…

Trust me, that was harder for me to write than it was for you to read.
